Westmoreland Middle School is a grades 5-8 school composed of approximately 325 students and 28 full and part time teachers. We are currently entering our seventh year of operation. our "small school" atmosphere allows us to not only gather quality academic data on our students through the middle level NYS standard strands, but see them as individuals. We are able to know the areas of strength of each of our students as the young men and women they are, and not as numbers which sometimes happens in a larger school setting. Our staff has done a wonderful job growing professionally this past summer. Most of our faculty and staff participated in the Capturing Kids Hearts training program offered by the Flippen group. This training has focused around building positive, healthy relationships with our students in order for them to feel more welcomed in our school. The premise behind this program is if a child feels emotionally comfortable in school his/her achievement will rise accordingly. We also see to our students' social and emotional growth in addition to their academic growth by offering them the opportunity to participate in various sports, activities, clubs, and various other extra-curricular activities.
