What are databases?

Databases are a searchable, comprehensive collection of reliable information from a variety of resources including but not limited to magazines, journals, newspapers, books etc. that can be accessed via the internet.

Important Note: All databases are username and password protected. Please ask library staff for a “Database Username and Password” sheet in order to gain access into the individual databases.

“What is CIDER?"

CIDER, your digital catalog of library resources:

Puts library materials from 180 school libraries from more than 6 counties at your finger tips

Provides year-round access from home or school.

To order items from the CIDER catalog, ask your library staff for assistance in placing an Interlibrary Loan Request” (Sponsored by Oneida/Herkimer School Library System).

First Search:

“Web-based information system for searching online databases” (OCLC First Search). (Sponsored by Oneida/Herkimer School Library System and Central New York Library Resources Council)

Gale Databases:

Gateway to 37 individual databases. The school community can find a plethora of information pertaining to a broad range of subjects. Click on the “Gale Databases” link for summaries of the individual databases.

New York State Test Station:

OPALS

Open-source Automated Library System that provides 24/7 internet access to the Westmoreland Library and Information Center’s book collection.

Overdrive:

"Oneida/Herkimer School Library now offers eBooks and audiobooks free through the library!

You can browse the collection titles in a variety of subjects including classic and current fiction as well as popular nonfiction titles. This collection can be accessed 24/7" (SLS Website).

Search:
          Search provides access to 38 individual databases that covers a wide spectrum of information.
    These databases can be accessed online from the library or remotely 24/7. Click on the “Search” link
          for summaries of the individual databases.

SNAP:

"Is an online catalog for teachers and students. This catalog provides access to Live Television, Digital Educational Content, Books, Multiple Book Copies, Kits, DVDs and Videos" (BOCES Media Technology Services).
