After 13 years at Westmoreland, another class is ready to tackle the future.
The 119th Annual High School Commencement took place on Friday, June 17, outside on the football field. It was the first graduation ceremony held without restrictions since 2019, or since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Class of 2022 entered the football field to “Pomp and Circumstance,” which was performed by the Jr./Sr. High School Concert Band. The Jr./Sr. High School Select Chorus sang the National Anthem and Alma Mater. The band, directed by Mrs. Cutler, also performed “As if to Say Goodbye,” while the chorus, directed by Mrs. Davis, also sang “Sing Gently.”
Graduates Carrah Sadler and Hayley Breen, as well as Class President Lauren Stevens, addressed their classmates. Board of Education President Mr. Acee, Superintendent of Schools Mr. Migliori and Jr./Sr. High School Principal Mr. Saxton also offered remarks. The official commencement address was given by Mrs. Paratore, longtime English teacher and now coordinator of the Connectivity Center at the Jr./Sr. High School.
Prior to the presentation of diplomas, the ceremony was paused so each graduate could personally greet their parents on the track and present them with a flower as a sign of appreciation for their support over the years. The touching tribute occurred while the Jr./Sr. High School Concert Band softly performed in the background.
The Class of 2022 thanks all of those who helped make the evening so memorable, including Mr. Darrah and Miss Brown, senior class advisors, Mr. Cardillo and Mr. Cieri, Program Committee, Decoration Committee, Jr./Sr. High School Student Council, Board of Education and school administration and Buildings and Grounds Department.
Congratulations, Class of 2022!
