Michelle M. Adey Fundraiser

WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- Another big round of applause for the Westmoreland community in helping to raise $3,735.96 for the Michelle M. Adey Foundation.

This was made possible through the district’s Adopt-A-Charity initiative. Throughout the months of November and December, students and staff learned all about the Michelle M. Adey Foundation and how it supports the community. On Fridays, everyone was encouraged to wear red and white, the colors that represent the organization.

Our second Adopt-A-Charity kicked off in November with an intense charity basketball game between school district coaches/teachers and students! Director of Curriculum, Stephen Polera, was the coach for the students and the legendary Michael Adey, former Athletic Director for the district, made calls for the teachers and coaches. The teachers pulled ahead the first quarter of the game, but the students quickly made a comeback before the half. The teachers came back in full force during the second half, ultimately winning 52-44.

In December, the community showed up to spread holiday cheer. The district’s second annual tree lighting was dedicated to the Foundation. Many staff members put together amazing raffle baskets to help raise money. The PTO gave families a chance to shop for loved ones at their Christmas store. They were met with hot chocolate and Christmas carolers in the front lobby of the Primary Elementary School. Families were then asked to head outside for the tree lighting in front of the school. Santa and Mrs. Claus made a grand entrance on a Westmoreland Volunteer Fire Department fire truck and handed out candy canes to everyone in the crowd.

These events, coupled with donations collected for wearing the organizations colors on Friday, helped raise $3,735.96 for this charity which supports families of children with life-threatening illnesses who incur travel costs and other expenses associated with their illness. Thank you to the Bulldog community for always showing support for everything we do!
