Mock Crash

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. – The Westmoreland Central School District would like to inform the community about a mock car crash simulation taking place at the Jr./Sr. High School on Friday, May 30, 2025.

This powerful, educational event is designed to raise awareness among students about the serious consequences of distracted, impaired, and reckless driving. It is hosted by Upstate Medical University’s Trauma Injury Prevention Coordinator and 2014 Westmoreland graduate, Anthony Scalise III.

The program will begin in the auditorium with a presentation and Q&A session, followed by a simulated two-car crash scene in the school parking lot. Using real audio from a mock 911 radio report, student actors, and emergency responders, the scenario will vividly depict the aftermath of a serious accident—including the response from the Westmoreland Fire Department, Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and Mercy Flight just to name a few.

Please note: There will be visible emergency activity at the school, including sirens and a helicopter landing in the parking lot. This is only a simulation and poses no danger to students or the public. The goal is to empower students to make informed, safe decisions behind the wheel and to share this important message with their peers.

Reminders will be sent to families in the days leading up to the event.
