Scholar Athletes

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. – The Westmoreland Central School District is proud to announce that seniors Madalynne Enos and Samantha Ferguson were recognized as NYSPHSAA Scholar‑Athletes at the 2025 Section III Athletics Awards Dinner on June 9 at Onondaga Community College.

This award, presented by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, honors student‑athletes maintaining a GPA of 90 or above during their playing season, showcasing both academic excellence and athletic commitment.

  • Madalynne Enos made history in February 2024 by becoming Westmoreland’s all‑time leading scorer in basketball during a game against Frankfort‑Schuyler. Her leadership and dedication sets a prime example for future athletes.

  • Samantha Ferguson, a dedicated multi‑sport athlete, recently received the Sportsmanship Award at the Oneida County STOP DWI High School Baseball and Softball Classic in May at Hamilton College.

The NYSPHSAA Scholar‑Athlete initiative, established in 1991, celebrates students who excel both in academics and athletics, requiring a 90+ GPA during the sports season to qualify.

The Westmoreland Central School District extends congratulations to both Madalynne and Samantha for their exceptional accomplishments and for being outstanding role models in our community.
