WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- The safety of our students, staff and school visitors at the Primary Elementary is our top priority. To ensure a smooth and secure start and end to each school day, we’ve established specific procedures for arrival and dismissal. We ask all families to follow these expectations closely and be patient, especially during the first two weeks of school as routines are being established.
Our School Patrol Officers (SPOs) will be present and visible during both arrival and dismissal. Please follow all directions from the SPOs and staff to keep our campus safe and efficient.
Arrival Information:
Drop-off begins at 8:40 a.m. Please do not arrive early.
Parents must park in the parent lot (see graphic below) and walk students to the main entrance doors.
Buses will use the bus circle. No cars are allowed in this area.
The school day starts at 9:00 a.m.
If arriving after 9:00 a.m., please enter the building to sign your child in for a late arrival.
Students enter the building independently; parents should say goodbye at the door.
Kindergarten teachers will be outside the first two days to greet and guide their students.
First and Second grade students will enter the building and go straight to their classrooms.
Staff members will be inside to assist and supervise students during arrival.
Dismissal Information:
Students riding the bus are dismissed at 3:15 p.m.
Once buses exit, parent pick-up begins around 3:20–3:25 p.m.
Parents will be assigned:
A designated parking cone
A number tag for your dashboard to help staff identify you quickly.
Kindergarten pick-up is in the parent parking lot; students will exit through the kindergarten doors and be walked to your car.
First and Second grade will be picked up in the main bus circle, once buses have left.
Parents must wait to enter until buses are gone.
Pull up to your assigned cone and remain in your vehicle.
No reversing or passing other vehicles – wait for the car in front of you to move before you go.
For safety reasons, students are not released until all vehicles are parked.
If you need extra time to load or exit, let us know so we can assign you a spot at the back of the line.
If you are running late, call the main office and we’ll give you instructions for a late pick-up.
Important: Due to a high volume of pick-ups last year, multiple dismissal waves were necessary. If you are assigned to a later wave, please wait in the designated lot near the high school or at the end of the line to avoid roadway backups.
Please see photo below for a better understanding:
We’ll send reminders and guidance during the first two weeks of school to help streamline the process. A Google Form will be sent on the week of August 4, 2025 for families to indicate whether their child will be a bus rider or parent pick-up.
If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the main office at the Primary Elementary at (315) 557-2637.
Thank you for your understanding!
