The Westmoreland Central School District is proud to welcome Marylynn Sweeney to the Bulldog family as a Special Education teacher at our Upper Elementary School! Marylynn joins us from Madison-Oneida BOCES and brings with her a passion for advocating for students and helping them thrive.
Marylynn earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Utica University and continued her education at SUNY Potsdam, where she received a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She says her decision to become a teacher was inspired by the wonderful educators in her own life. “I have had amazing teachers throughout my schooling which made me want to be a teacher,” she said.
For Marylynn, Westmoreland is more than just a workplace, it’s family. Her father, Michael Sweeney, is the supervisor for the bus garage, her stepmother, Colleen Sweeney, also works in the bus garage, and her brother, Michael Sweeney, coaches several teams within the district. Marylynn also chose Westmoreland because she was drawn to the district’s student-centered approach. “I have always liked the way the district puts students first and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Outside of school, Marylynn enjoys spending time with her dogs, family, and friends. A lifelong learner, she is always seeking new ways to grow personally and professionally.
Please join us in giving a warm Bulldog welcome to Marylynn Sweeney!
