Marching Band

WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- On October 26th at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, the 2025 New York State Field Band Conference (NYSFBC) State Championships brought high school marching bands from across New York together to show off their musical talents. The event, hosted by the NYSFBC, ran from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and featured competitive classes ranging from large to small schools.

The Westmoreland Central School District Marching Band, Pride of Westmoreland, with 68 proud members, entered the Small Schools 2 (SS2) class and took to the field ready to perform, “Momma Always Said.” The performance, with some humor, pulled inspiration from the timeless wisdom of mommas everywhere. With seven bands in their class, Westmoreland took home third place!

From the opening move to the final formation, the group demonstrated confidence and unity. The band director, Kristyn Cutler, said, “I’ve never seen a group grow in confidence, skill and teamwork like our group did this year.” Their hard work paid off in their performance and the judges and fans noticed it too. In the SS2 class, they competed alongside bands from schools with enrollments far above our own, which shows what can be achieved with dedication.

“What an unforgettable day of incredible performances at the Dome! Thank you to all the bands, staff, volunteers, and fans who made this a truly special Championship Sunday”, said Mrs. Cutler. This performance proved that school size doesn’t matter. What’s important is the passion, teamwork and perseverance by the students. “It was an amazing day and season and I’m so proud to be their director.”
