WESTMORELAND, N.Y. – The Westmoreland Central School District will conduct a district-wide lockdown and evacuation drill on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, ahead of the Thanksgiving Break.
The drill will begin with the High School shortly after 1:00 p.m., followed by the Primary and Upper Elementary Schools at approximately 1:45 p.m. Families may notice an increased presence of law enforcement and first responders on campus during this time. Please note: THIS IS ONLY A DRILL.
As required by New York State, all school districts must conduct two lockdown drills before the end of the calendar year. In addition, an evacuation drill is necessary to ensure students and staff know how to safely leave campus if the usual dismissal procedures cannot be followed. Situations such as an unexpected road closure on Route 233 due to a natural disaster, accident, or other emergency, may require the district to dismiss from an alternate location.
Safety remains our highest priority. This drill gives the district, students, and staff the opportunity to practice these procedures and ensure we are prepared should an emergency ever occur.
Parents and guardians will receive a text notification once each building’s drill is complete and students are ready to be picked up.
