The fourth grade classes recently visited Zi3 for a hands-on learning experience that brought their math lessons to life! As part of their fractions unit, students demonstrated what they have learned by creating and dividing pizzas based on specific topping requests from their classmates.
Using their knowledge of fractions, students were challenged to divide their pizzas into 1/2, 1/4, and 1/8 portions. They carefully planned how to split each pie to match the topping preferences of their “customers,” explaining their mathematical thinking along the way. This engaging activity allowed them to apply fraction concepts in a real-world scenario, reinforcing their understanding of equal parts and proportional reasoning.
After designing their pizzas on paper, the fun continued in the kitchen! With guidance from Mrs. Davis, students baked their pizzas, cut them into the correct fractional portions, and checked to make sure their slices matched the requested amounts. Of course, the best part of the lesson came at the end — enjoying the delicious results of their hard work!
This creative, hands-on approach not only strengthened students’ understanding of fractions but also made learning memorable and meaningful. Great job to our fourth graders and a big thank you to Mrs. Davis for organizing such a fun and educational experience!
