Ride

Our elementary students recently had the opportunity to take part in a meaningful community event as they gathered outside to cheer on the cyclists participating in the Ride for Missing Children.

The Ride for Missing Children was established in response to the disappearance of a local young girl who vanished while riding her bicycle in Sauquoit, New York, on August 18, 1993. Although her abductor was later apprehended, her remains have never been recovered. The tragedy inspired a mission to educate children, families, and communities about child safety while raising awareness about missing and exploited children.

In the weeks leading up to the Ride, our students attended a special assembly where they learned about the history and purpose of the event. Presenters shared important age-appropriate lessons about personal safety, the importance of trusted adults, and ways children can stay safe both in their communities and online. Students gained a deeper understanding of how awareness, education, and community involvement can help protect children and prevent future tragedies.

Three weeks later, students eagerly prepared for the cyclists' arrival. They created colorful posters with encouraging messages and gathered along the route to wave and cheer as riders passed through. Their enthusiasm and support were evident as they welcomed participants who had dedicated their time and energy to promoting child safety and honoring the memory of missing children.

The experience provided our students with an opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world community engagement. Beyond simply cheering on the riders, students witnessed the power of people coming together for a common cause. They learned that everyone has a role to play in creating safer communities and supporting efforts that protect children.

We are grateful to the organizers, volunteers, law enforcement agencies, and cyclists who make the Ride for Missing Children possible each year. Their dedication helps keep important conversations about child safety alive while honoring those who have been affected by these tragedies.

Thank you to all of the riders for allowing our students to be a small part of this important day. We were honored to welcome you to our school community and to stand alongside you in raising awareness for missing and exploited children.
