Westmoreland Elementary School is excited to announce the installation of two new Little Free Libraries, located near the flagpoles at both the Primary Building and the Upper Elementary Building. These "Take a Book, Share a Book" free book-sharing boxes are now open and ready for students, families, and community members to enjoy.
The Little Free Libraries are designed to encourage reading, promote literacy, and provide easy access to books for everyone in our community. Visitors are invited to borrow a book, leave a book, or simply discover a new favorite story. By making books readily available outside our school buildings, we hope to inspire a lifelong love of reading and learning for students of all ages.
A special dedication and grand opening ceremony was recently held to celebrate this exciting addition to our campus. Representatives from the New Hartford-Westmoreland Kiwanis Club joined school administrators, staff, students, and community members for the event.
The district would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the New Hartford-Westmoreland Kiwanis Club for building and gifting these Little Free Libraries to our schools. Their generosity, partnership, and commitment to supporting literacy opportunities for children made this project possible. The impact of their gift will be felt for years to come as students and families continue to enjoy access to quality reading materials.
During the ceremony, student representatives expressed their appreciation by presenting members of the Kiwanis Club with Westmoreland Bulldogs mugs filled with candy and treats as a small token of thanks for their support and dedication to our school community.
The excitement surrounding the project has already been evident. Community members and supporters have stepped forward with book donations, and both libraries are already stocked with a variety of age-appropriate books for students to enjoy. The libraries will continue to grow as books are borrowed, shared, and donated throughout the year.
Projects like these highlight the importance of community partnerships and the positive impact they can have on students. The Little Free Libraries serve not only as a resource for reading materials but also as a symbol of collaboration, generosity, and a shared commitment to education.
We encourage everyone to stop by, explore the libraries, and participate in this wonderful initiative.
