Westmorelandβs third graders recently had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience hands-on learning during a field trip to the Black River Outdoor Education Program (B.R.O.E.P.).
Throughout the day, students explored the programβs nature trails, took in the beauty of the outdoors, and learned more about the natural environment and local history. The experience provided students with an opportunity to connect what they learn in the classroom with the world around them.
Outdoor education offers students much more than a chance to enjoy a day outside. Experiences like this help students understand the benefits and importance of outdoor recreation while encouraging them to stay active and appreciate the natural resources in their own community. As students navigated the trails and participated in outdoor activities, they had opportunities to build physical endurance, develop confidence, and support their overall health and well-being.
The trip also encouraged students to be curious about their surroundings. Exploring local trails and learning about the history of the area helped give students a greater appreciation for the community they call home.
For many students, getting outside and learning in a different environment can create memorable experiences that stay with them long after the field trip is over. The combination of physical activity, exploration, history, and hands-on learning made for a meaningful day for our third graders.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Phys. Ed. teacher Mr. Cucci for arranging this educational and active field trip and providing our students with the opportunity to learn, explore, and enjoy the outdoors.
We are proud to provide our students with learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and encourage them to stay active, explore their surroundings, and discover new ways to learn!
