This year, the Westmoreland District Art Show showcased a wide range of diverse and unique pieces of art created by our very talented students. The show included elementary, middle and high school art as well as dual credit MVCC courses.

Artwork from the elementary school highlighted work from all students throughout the year. Projects included painting, collage, sewing, weaving, and sculpture projects. Many projects were inspired by countries around the world such as Aboriginal snakes, Egyptian cartouches and Canopic jars, Mexican tin mirrors, Chinese scrolls and dragons!

The display for the middle school also featured projects created throughout the year that highlighted key learning points. The 7th grade presented their comic charcters and fantasy transports, which emphasised their learning to create designs that were geared toward attracting a particular target audience. Works created by the 6th grade focused on their study of values in black and white as well as the Realism style. The 5th grade showed off their talents with shapes in their animal drawings made by using only two geometric shapes, as well as their colorful Matisse style collages.

In the high school, students created a diverse range of projects from our variety of electives: including Sculpture, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, two MVCC Dual-Credit Courses, and both Art 1 and 2. The Art 1 class was lucky to send their Mail Art to a high school in Japan, as well as a Manga Art University. The Art 2 students spent all year focusing on honing their realism skills with still life work, as well as creating culturally conscious social justice art. All students focused on and continued to grow in the areas of color theory, realism and art history.
