Tyler Beaupre, a young man in a gray Nike sweater

Tyler Beaupre was named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of September.

Tyler, a senior, is in his second year working at the bookstore located in the Jr./Sr. High School. Business teacher Mrs. Weissenberger, who oversees the store, says Tyler was selected based on his time, dedication and ability to organize a team of bookstore employees to spend time in school over the summer to prepare the bookstore for opening day - - the first day of school.

“We received all of our new merchandise, and we had to put it on hangers and organize it all to get it ready for the new school year,” Tyler explained. “We also ordered new gym uniforms for all of the seventh and eighth grade students that moved up to the high school this year and a bunch of snacks and drinks.”

The Bulldog Bookstore is not associated with any class. Rather, students interested in acquiring a volunteer position at the store fill out an application and are then interviewed by Mrs. Weissenberger and other staff members. Students work during free periods and lunch.

Tyler says working at the bookstore is a great experience and learning tool.

“I am gaining and improving a lot of skills, like communication skills and how to handle cash,” Tyler said. “It’s all stuff I can put on my resume and use toward my future.”

For his time spent getting the bookstore ready over the summer, Tyler also fulfilled the Westmoreland Central School District’s community service requirement, which requires each student to complete 10 hours of community service before graduating.

He’s having a lot of fun, too.

“I like seeing all of the new faces that come in and interacting with all of the new employees that we get,” Tyler said.

The Bulldog Bookstore is open Monday-Friday during school hours and sometimes during special events. There’s plenty of “green and white” to choose from. Products for sale range from t-shirts to hoodies to snacks and school supplies.

As for Tyler’s future plans, he will be attending college next year, most likely to study cyber security. He says he’s considering becoming a state trooper.

Congratulations to Tyler Beaupre on being named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of September!
