Sandra Reilly speaking to a group of Students

Westmoreland’s Primary and Upper Elementary students got a taste of what it’s like to be an author.

On November 20, local author Sandra Reilly visited the schools to promote her new book, The Sunny Day, Rainy Day Ride. Written in honor of missing and exploited children, the book is one of several in her series called The Wish Fairy, geared for children ages 7-12.  Sandra Reilly

In The Wish Fairy – An original children’s story by Sandra Reilly, a fairy named Misty lives in a magical kingdom under a flower field. The following is the synopsis:

“In this kingdom, which has a beautiful castle, a queen, unicorns and other magical creatures, every fairy has a special job to do. With all her heart Misty wants her job to be a Wish Fairy so she can spend her life granting worthy wishes to those who believe in magic. But not every fairy can become a Wish Fairy and Misty is sometimes a not-so-perfect, always-getting-into trouble kind of fairy. So first, she must prove to the queen and the council of fairies that she is worthy of this very important job. To do this, she needs to find a way to convince and prove to the people in the nearby village, that magic does exist. But how will she do it? Follow Misty as she and her human friend, Hope, come up with a plan to prove that Misty would be a wonderful Wish Fairy. But will their plan work?”

While visiting Westmoreland, Reilly also discussed what it takes to write a book, how she generates ideas and described the editing, revision and, ultimately, publishing process.

“Our first and second grade students have been busy doing author studies, learning about why authors write stories and developing their own skills as writers,” Mrs. O’Connell, Primary Elementary School principal, said. “What Sandra Reilly was able to share goes hand-in-hand with what our students are learning in the classroom.”

If interested in purchasing a book written by Sandra Reilly, order forms are available in the Primary and Upper Elementary libraries. The forms, along with payment, are due by December 7. Books can also be purchased on Amazon.

The Primary Elementary School and Upper Elementary School thanks Sandra Reilly for visiting!
