Sandra Lalonde displaying her book and her niece's art art for students

Sarah Lalonde, formerly a second grade and STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Art-Math) teacher at the Westmoreland Primary Elementary School, isn’t slowing down in her retirement.

Using her skills as an educator, Lalonde is now a children’s author.

On December 4, Lalonde visited the Primary Elementary School’s first grade class to read her book, Pepito’s Whiskers – A True Story of a Blind Cat. The book, which is illustrated by Lalonde’s niece, Laiken Hall, is about Pepito, a blind cat who was once a scared kitten living on the streets. Readers find out how Pepito uses his whiskers to help him live a normal, fun-filled life with Carrie and his new cat friends, Zazu and Dimitri.

Lalonde also took time to talk the first grade students about the writing process - - or what it takes to write a book. The lesson complemented the personal narratives students wrote in class.

Westmoreland’s first grade class thanks Sarah Lalonde for visiting!
