The January Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month is Emma Riesel, daughter of Chad and Sheri Riesel.  

Emma  Emma is a member of or participates in National Honor Society, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Select Chorus and New York State School Music Association. She currently holds the prestigious position of Drum Major.

Emma’s volunteer work includes helping out at Drums Along the Mohawk, participating in bottle and can drives and taking an active role in all fundraisers and activities organized by our music and drama programs.

After graduating from Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School, Emma plans to attend a four-year college.

Each month, a qualifying junior is named Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month. Award winners are selected by faculty and staff based on the following criteria:

  • Minimum average of 80
  • Good citizenship and character
  • Active participation in school and community activities

Kiwanis of Westmoreland is a local branch of Kiwanis International. The mission of the nonprofit service organization is to “empower communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children.” Local clubs look out for our communities and the international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty.
