Students at the Primary Elementary School are learning about many of the professions in the “real world."

In January, the Primary Elementary School celebrated Career Week for the first time, teaching students about a variety of careers and encouraging them to explore their career interests.  Bill Kardas speaking to students

Throughout the week, several professionals from varying career fields visited K-2 classes. Among those to visit kindergarten students were Mrs. Schwarz, a nurse, Mrs. Albright, a therapist, Mr. Heirzmann, a general contractor and custodian, Mr. Bova of 95.5 FM, Mr. Neumann of Spectrum Cable, Mr. Storey of Hood Dairy Plant and Westmoreland’s very own, Upper Elementary School Principal Mr. Polera. Meanwhile, many students dressed up as their current career of choice.

“We hope Career Week taught our students about many of the different types of professions out there, and that they can achieve what they want to do in life,” Mrs. Bova, kindergarten teacher, said. “We also wanted to stress that obtaining and succeeding in a career takes hard work.”

On January 30, WKTV Meteorologist Bill Kardas visited kindergarten students. Prior to his visit, students completed a unit on weather, learning how weather influences our everyday lives and how to appropriately choose clothing and plan activities based on the weather.

Kardas talked about his profession, as well as the dangers of extreme weather, the difference between snow, sleet and hail, and how thunderstorms form. He also answered questions.
