Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School senior, Danielle Flack, was recently honored by the Fort Stanwix Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

The award was given to Flack for her second place finish in an essay contest organized by the DAR Fort Stanwix Chapter. The contest asked area students to write an essay on a topic about America.

At the award ceremony in her honor, Flack read her essay. She also received a cash prize, certificate and pin.

Rome Free Academy senior, McKenze Tikalsky, placed first in the essay contest.

DAR is an organization with a deeply rich history while also being truly relevant in today’s world. More than 930,000 women have joined the organization since it was founded more than 125 years ago. Daughters are vibrant, active women who are passionate about community service, preserving history, educating children, as well as honoring and supporting those who serve our nation.

Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible to join DAR.
