For spring athletes, winter is always a long time of the year. So, when it’s finally over, there’s reason for excitement.

Eager to hit the field instead of practicing inside, the Westmoreland Varsity and Junior Varsity Softball teams played in a “snow game,” outside on the softball field, on March 13. The fun event has become an annual tradition.

While hits didn’t travel like they normally would, and fielding and pitching was a bit of an adventure, the game is an opportunity for players to come together, bond and start to build good chemistry before taking on other schools.

The spring sports season started on March 4. Pending good weather and all of the snow melting in time, the Varsity Softball team is scheduled to play its first real game on April 1 against Hamilton. The Junior Varsity Softball team is slated to play Sauquoit Valley on April 2.
