Every penny counts.
The Upper Elementary School Student Council once again participated in the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s “Pennies for Patients” Campaign, joining more than 27,000 schools across the country to raise money for blood cancer research. 
From March 25-April 11, Upper Elementary students were asked to bring in loose change for their homeroom’s collection container. Every Friday, Student Council members then collected money from each homeroom to donate to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. Students could also collect donations online.
Like last year, this year’s campaign was a huge success. The Upper Elementary School raised $2,258.06. For raising the most money, Mrs. Wolfanger’s fourth grade class won a pizza party.
“The Student Council thanks everyone for their support,” Mr. Boisen, student council advisor, said. “It’s amazing how quickly loose change can add up. Every cent helps make a difference.”
Fundraisers such as this one continue to allow for critical advancements to be made through research. According to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, over the last 50 years, the survival rate for a person diagnosed with leukemia has increased from three percent to 90 percent.
