Josh Davis performing with DownBeat percussion

Josh Davis was all smiles.

The Westmoreland senior was able to perform with DownBeat Percussion, the official drumline of the National Football League’s Buffalo Bills, when the group put on a concert at the Upper Elementary School on June 11.  Josh Davis performing

The thrilling group, composed of world class percussionists, first performed at a Buffalo Bills game in December of 2013.

They haven’t missed a game in Orchard Park since.

At every Bills home game, the group performs a three-minute pre-game show on the field and usually makes some noise after a good play. On special occasions, the group also performs during halftime.

DownBeat Percussion travels to several schools every year to spread the art of percussion and all of the opportunities it has to offer. When at the Upper Elementary School, in addition to performing, the group gave some students the chance to “play along.”

Last fall, Davis became the first ever Westmoreland student selected to attend the New York State School Music Association’s (NYSSMA) 83rd Annual Winter Conference in Rochester. He was also just one of three students in Oneida County to receive a scholarship from the Oneida County Music Educators Association (OCMEA) at the end of the 2018-19 school year. He was awarded the first place scholarship worth $2,200.

Davis is attending Messiah College in Pennsylvania in the fall to pursue a career in music education and technology.
