To earn the designation, a school must be among the top performing under New York State’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan for performance, student growth and/or graduation rate. A school must also continue to make academic progress.

β€œWe are pleased that Westmoreland was recognized as a high achieving and high progress school. Our graduation rate and students’ high level of performance on Regents exams is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of students, staff, parents and our entire community," Superintendent of Schools Rocco Migliori said. β€œOne of the other metrics used to determine qualification to this list is the β€˜college and career readiness’ standard. This is something we as a district have been focusing on for a number of years. It's great to know that these efforts have proven successful and meaningful to our students. It's important to recognize that this is a team effort, beginning in kindergarten. Each step is important as we try to make sure all kids graduate college and career ready.”

Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School is one of only five schools in Oneida County to be named a β€œhigh achieving and high progress school.” The others were Clinton High School, Holland Patent High School, New Hartford Senior High School and Whitesboro High School.
