To earn the designation, a school must be among the top performing under New York State’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan for performance, student growth and/or graduation rate. A school must also continue to make academic progress.

“We are pleased that Westmoreland was recognized as a high achieving and high progress school. Our graduation rate and students’ high level of performance on Regents exams is a direct result of the hard work and dedication of students, staff, parents and our entire community," Superintendent of Schools Rocco Migliori said. “One of the other metrics used to determine qualification to this list is the ‘college and career readiness’ standard. This is something we as a district have been focusing on for a number of years. It's great to know that these efforts have proven successful and meaningful to our students. It's important to recognize that this is a team effort, beginning in kindergarten. Each step is important as we try to make sure all kids graduate college and career ready.”

Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School is one of only five schools in Oneida County to be named a “high achieving and high progress school.” The others were Clinton High School, Holland Patent High School, New Hartford Senior High School and Whitesboro High School.
