The Westmoreland Central School District held its annual “Opening Day” on September 3 for all instructional and school-related staff, marking the official start of the 2019-20 school year.
After morning refreshments, staff gathered in the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium, where they were welcomed by Superintendent of Schools Rocco Migliori. Superintendent Migliori introduced the district’s new staff members and discussed the district’s goals and objectives for the new school year. He also provided several updates, particularly pertaining to district safety.
“This summer, we put many of the finishing touches on nearly $1 million worth of security enhancements,” Superintendent Migliori said. “The grant funding from the New York State Smart Schools Initiative specifically allowed us to upgrade our public address, phone, visitor management and electrical systems – all designed to better protect our students, staff and community members.”
Staff also participated in several mandated trainings covering topics such as the Dignity for All Students Act (DASA), “Right to Know,” mental health and sexual harassment. The day concluded with building and staff meetings.
“Each of us who have the pleasure and opportunity to work with kids on a daily basis, no matter the role, have the ability to positively influence young minds and to change lives,” Superintendent Migliori said. “This is why we (educators) continue to do what we do, year after year.”
“I have no doubt the 2019-20 school year will be another great one,” Superintendent Migliori added.
