By now, students have had the chance to settle into their classrooms and get to know their new teachers.
On September 11, parents and guardians of students at the Upper Elementary School and Primary Elementary School had the same chance.
Each school held a “Meet the Teacher Night,” an opportunity for parents, guardians and other family members to meet their child’s teacher, learn about curriculum, become familiar with classroom procedures and discover ways they can reinforce what is being taught in the classroom at home. It was also an opportunity to explore. In addition to grade level classrooms, both schools have learning centers for STEAM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Arts-Math), coding, music, art and reading.
The Zone for Imagination, Inspiration and Innovation (Zi3), located in the Upper Elementary School, and the Little Bulldog Fitness Center, located in the Primary Elementary School, also welcomed visitors.
The Zi3 is a unique learning space where students, staff and community members can collaborate, research, connect, design, build and develop new ideas. Past community events and classes include the Artificial Intelligence Family Fun Nights, Staying Safe Online, Google Tools for Parents, Coding and Robotics, Introduction to Flying Drones, Certification for 3D Printing and Laser Engraving, Painting and Pendulums, Cooking Healthy with Kids, Introduction to Cake Decorating, Munchies and Masterpieces and Muffin Making.
The Little Bulldog Fitness Center features “little” weight and cardio equipment specially designed for young children. As part of the physical education curriculum, students first learn how to properly use the equipment and then regularly exercise. The center helps to instill good habits at a young age by stressing the importance of physical activity and making healthy food choices.
The Westmoreland PTO and other organizations were on hand as well to disperse information.
We hope everyone has a great 2019-20 school year!
