The Westmoreland Girls Varsity Soccer team’s quest for a section championship is off to a strong start.
No. 6 seed Westmoreland defeated No. 11 seed Bishop Grimes 3-1 in the first round of the Section III Class C playoffs on October 22. The game was played at Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School. 
Westmoreland struck first, and led 2-0 at halftime. Bishop Grimes scored in the second half to make it 2-1, but Westmoreland was able to extend its lead and hold on for the victory.
Mary Muller, Mia Lazzara and Samantha Dee each scored a goal for Westmoreland. Muller also had an assist.
Abby Tweedale scored Bishop Grimes’ lone goal. Keeper, Natalie Musolino, made nine saves.
With the win, Westmoreland advances to the Section III Class C quarterfinals. Westmoreland will play No. 3 seed Dolgeville on Friday, October 25, at 6:30 p.m., at Herkimer College.
