The Westmoreland-Oriskany Boys Varsity Soccer team is two wins away from a section title.
No. 4 seed Westmoreland-Oriskany defeated No. 12 seed Tully in dramatic fashion in the quarterfinals of the Section III Class C playoffs on October 25. As daylight turned into darkness, Westmoreland-Oriskany won on penalty kicks, 4-2. The game, played at Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School, was tied 1-1 after regulation and two 15-minute overtime periods.
Colton Davis scored Westmoreland-Oriskany’s lone goal during regulation. He was assisted by Tyler Crumb. Tully’s goal was scored by Riley Carr and assisted by Ian Byrne.
Westmoreland-Oriskany keeper, Andrew Pysnik, stopped Tully’s first two penalty kick attempts. Meanwhile, Westmoreland-Oriskany made all four of its attempts.
With the win, Westmoreland-Oriskany (14-4-1) advances to the Section III Class C semifinals. Westmoreland-Oriskany will play No. 1 seed South Lewis (16-2) on Wednesday, October 30, at 5:30 p.m., at VVS High School. The winner will advance to play either No. 2 seed Bishop Ludden or No. 3 seed Bishop Grimes in the section final on November 5.
