three girls in girl scout vests

Three Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School students belonging to their local girl scouts troop, received the highest honor a “cadette scout” can earn.

Freshmen Caitlyn Merritt, Bailey Metzger and Allison Davis were each presented with the distinguished “Silver Award” during a special ceremony in the Jr./Sr. High School Auditorium on October 25.  Caitlyn Merritt, Bailey Metzger and Allison Davis

Over the summer, the trio voluntarily spent countless hours collecting black and white clothing to create a “concert closet” in the music office at the Jr./Sr. High School. They also raised $100 to purchase clothing.

The clothing can be worn by chorus and band students who do not have black or white attire for concerts or can’t afford it.

“The effort needed to be sustainable in nature, and not a one-time project,” Mrs. Davis, Jr./Sr. High School music teacher, explained. “After interviewing community members, the girls discovered there was a need for some students in our music program to have black and white clothing for concerts. In addition to collecting clothing and creating a closest, the girls set up a system for students to sign out the clothing.”

Any clothing that could not be used by the Jr./Sr. High School Music Department, was donated to other organizations.

Mrs. Davis says once Caitlyn, Bailey and Allison graduate in a few years, the concert closet will be maintained by the Jr./Sr. High School chapter of the Tri-M Music Honor Society.

The Jr./Sr. High School Music Department greatly thanks Caitlyn, Bailey and Allison for their thoughtfulness and hard work!
