The Westmoreland Girls Varsity Soccer team made a lot of noise in the Section III Class C playoffs as a six seed.

Unfortunately, the noise - - and their season - - came to an end on October 30.  Westmo logo

Westmoreland lost to No. 2 seed Little Falls 2-1 in a closely contested Section III Class C semifinal game in Lowville.

Little Falls led 1-0 at halftime, and then held on for the 2-1 victory.

Mary Muller scored Westmoreland’s lone goal and Hailey Postol made nine saves for the Lady Bulldogs.

Gabriella Sylstra scored both goals for Little Falls.

“The team had an outstanding season that far exceeded our expectations,” Katie DeCarolis, Westmoreland Girls Varsity Soccer coach, said. “The success was a collective effort from everyone in the program.”

“Against Little Falls, the girls played their hearts out and it was unfortunate that we came up short,” Coach DeCarolis added. “Although we didn’t win, the girls should be proud. It’s the furthest a Westmoreland Girls Soccer team has gone in a long time.”

With the loss, Westmoreland concludes the 2019 season with a 13-4-1 overall record and a second place finish in the Division III Center State Conference. Little Falls went on to defeat Waterville in penalty kicks in the Section III Class C Championship game.

There’s already excitement among Westmoreland’s returning players and coaching staff for next season.

“This season was an awesome learning experience for a team full of young players,” Coach DeCarolis said. “With all but two players returning next season and some talented younger players moving up from modified, we should be very successful in the future. I am looking forward to some great seasons ahead.”

Congratulations to the Westmoreland Girls Varsity Soccer team on an outstanding 2019 season!
