For the last 28 years, Tom Varano has been a professional photographer and owner of Varano Photography.
Seven years ago, he learned and took on a new skill - - “speed painting.”
On November 6, Varano visited the Westmoreland Central School District to show off his extraordinary talent and present his unique show, "Emotion Into Art."
During the roughly one-hour show, Varano uses his fingertips, palms and several brushes to paint custom portraits of famous people and figures on four-by-five foot canvases in just minutes. His creations, including the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Albert Einstein, are all choreographed to powerful music that draws his audience into what is being created. As an added twist, Varano paints the portraits upside down so his audience doesn’t know what he’s painting until the very end - - when he flips the portraits upright. In-between paintings, Varano shares personal stories and words of encouragement and hope. His stories stress the importance of having a dream and using passion to fuel that dream.
What started off as an experiment in his basement has blossomed into a nationally recognized show. Varano currently travels across the United States, and even the world, to present "Emotion Into Art."
Varano performed two shows at Westmoreland - - one for students in grades K-6, and another for students in grades 7-12.
