Gary VanRiper, co-author of “The Adirondack Kids” book series, visited students at the Upper and Primary elementary schools on December 20.
The series includes 19 books, with each one about a particular mountain or place in the Adirondacks. They all introduce families to the Adirondack Park, encouraging them to get out and explore the wonder and adventures that await.
“I want to inspire in children a love for reading and maybe even to try their hand at writing,” Gary said. “I also want them to set down their electronic devices and spend time outdoors.”
Gary was joined by his wife, Carol. She has been the illustrator for the book series since book number four. All of the books are also co-written by Gary’s son, Justin.
