The winners of the Upper Elementary School’s “Fall Reading Challenge” were announced by Mr. Polera, Upper Elementary School principal, in January. Each read for well over 2,000 minutes.
The winners are:
Logan White, Grade 5 – 2,945 minutes William Fairbrother, Grade 3 – 2,895 minutes Amelia Seelman, Grade 5 – 2,410 minutes
As part of the challenge, students at the Upper Elementary School were asked to read at least 1,000 minutes between October 7 and December 20. During the challenge, participating students had to submit a log signed by a parent/guardian to their classroom teacher at the end of every week noting the amount of time they read at home and the title of the book(s). Students who did so, received raffle tickets to enter a drawing for several prizes.
“The purpose of the challenge is to promote at-home reading,” Mr. Polera said. “Students could read silently or with their parents and siblings. There are so many benefits to reading on a consistent basis.”
Each winner received a $15 gift card to Barnes & Noble, along with a bag of goodies.
