Mrs. Hecklau's students

Mrs. Hecklau’s first grade class continues to give back to our community.

In December, and as it always does, the class spent time making and decorating six gingerbread houses. The delicious and colorful creations were then put on display in the glass case next to the main office at the Primary Elementary School and raffled off to benefit the Town of Westmoreland Anna Kunz Memorial Swimming Pool.  Class photo with Tarkowski's

On January 16, Scott Tarkowski, president of the Westmoreland Summer Activities Committee which supports the pool, along with his wife, visited Mrs. Hecklau’s class, and was presented with the proceeds from the raffle - - a total donation of $118.

“Every holiday season, my class spearheads a fundraiser for a local organization,” Mrs. Hecklau said. “Not only do we get to support an important cause, but students learn the importance of giving and volunteerism.”

The Town of Westmoreland Anna Kunz Memorial Swimming Pool, located on Kunz Road in Westmoreland, reopened in 2019 after being shut down for the last five years. The Westmoreland Summer Activities Committee raised close to $80,000 through fundraisers, private donations and a state grant ever since signing a year-to-year lease with the Town of Westmoreland to revive the pool.

In the past, Mrs. Hecklau’s classes have supported organizations such as the Stevens-Swan Humane Society of Oneida County, Operation Sunshine, Spring Farm Cares and Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Thank you to everyone who supported Mrs. Hecklau’s class’ fundraiser!
