Alicia Smith was recently hired as a Teacher Aide at the Primary Elementary School. Her first day with the district was January 14.
Before coming to Westmoreland, Alicia worked at the North Utica Community Center for nine years. While there, she ran the center’s school-aged summer program and was a teaching assistant in its Universal Pre-K classroom, which is affiliated with the Utica City School District. Most recently, Alicia was a substitute teacher in the Rome and Westmoreland school districts.
When asked why she chose the Westmoreland Central School District, Alicia said, “because it’s my community.”
“My husband and I both grew up here, played sports for Westmoreland and graduated from the district,” Alicia added. “It’s my home, and I’m proud to be raising my family here as well.”
Alicia, a 2002 graduate of Westmoreland, earned her Associate’s degree from Mohawk Valley Community College in 2004 and Bachelor’s degree in English from SUNY Oneonta in 2006. She also has a New York State Teaching Assistant Certification.
In her spare time, Alicia enjoys camping, watching movies, watching and coaching sports and spending time with her family and friends. She also is the treasurer and a board member for the J-Rob Foundation and a board member for Westmoreland/Oriskany AYSO.
“I chose education because I wanted to be an inspiring voice for students and make a positive impact in their lives,” Alicia said.
Welcome (back) to Westmoreland, Alicia!
