Each month, a qualifying junior is named Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month. Award winners are selected by faculty and staff based on the following criteria:

·       Minimum average of 80;

·       Good citizenship and character; and

·       Active participation in school and community activities.

September Student of the Month

The September Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was Clare Calogero, daughter of Christine and Michael Calogero.  Clare   

Clare is an active member of or has participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, Team LEAD, Select Chorus, NYSSMA, Tri-M Honor Society, Drama Club, Broadway Voices and Varsity Soccer. For the past two years, she has diligently served as Class President, Student Council Treasurer and Drama Club Treasurer.

Clare is also an active member of our community. As part of Student Council, she assists with food drives in benefit of the Country Pantry in Clark Mills. Additionally, Clare volunteers for the Senior Citizen Prom and Senior Citizen Bingo and, along with the rest of Student Council and Team LEAD, helps make apple pies during the holidays which are then donated to local senior citizen centers. She also serves dinners at her church and helps out with numerous fundraisers in support of her class, including concessions, car washes and the always popular Brooks Chicken Barbecues.

After graduating from Westmoreland, Clare plans to attend a four-year college to pursue a career in the medical field.

October Student of the Month

The October Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was Brandon Massett, son of Cindy and David Massett.  Brandon

Brandon is an active member of or has participated in National Honor Society, Key Club, Mathletics, Bowling League and Yearbook Club. He also serves as Treasurer of Key Club and works in the Bulldog Bookstore at the Jr./Sr. High School.

Outside of school, Brandon assists the Westmoreland Kiwanis Club with its annual Christmas party for children and many pancake breakfasts. He also helps the Westmoreland PTO with its annual Trick-or-Treat Night at the Primary Elementary School, volunteers at the Rome Humane Society and participates in several fundraisers in support of his class, including car washes and Brooks Chicken Barbecues.

After graduating from Westmoreland, Brandon plans to attend a four-year college. He is still determining a course of study.

November Student of the Month

The November Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was Austin Edwards, son of Charlene and James Edwards.  Austin

Austin is a member of National Honor Society and Key Club. He also is a valued employee at the student-run Bulldog Bookstore and Bulldog Federal Credit Union at the Jr./Sr. High School.

In his spare time, Austin assists the Westmoreland Kiwanis Club with its annual Christmas party for children and many pancake breakfasts. He also helps the Westmoreland PTO with its annual Trick-or-Treat Night at the Primary Elementary School.

After graduating from Westmoreland, Austin plans to attend a four-year college. He is still determining a course of study.

December Student of the Month

The December Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was Olivia Golden, daughter of Christine Golden.  Olivia  

Olivia is a member of or has participated in Key Club and the Tennis, Volleyball and Softball programs. She also serves as President of Key Club.

In her spare time, Olivia assists the Westmoreland Kiwanis Club with its annual Christmas party for children and many pancake breakfasts, as well as the Westmoreland PTO with its annual Trick-or-Treat Night at the Primary Elementary School. She also volunteers at her church, where she serves monthly dinners and helps out with fundraisers, and participates in a “Community Clean Up” in Utica.

After graduating from Westmoreland, OIivia plans to attend a four-year college. She is still determining a course of study.

January Student of the Month

The January Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was JoyeAnne Alexander, daughter of Amanda and John Goetz. JoyeAnne

JoyeAnne is a member of or has participated in Key Club, Broadway Voices, Drama Club, Marching Band, Winter Guard, Art Club, E-Sports Club, Yearbook Club, GSA Club and Tri-M Honor Society. She also serves as Vice President of Key Club and is a valued employee at the student-run Bulldog Bookstore at the Jr./Sr. High School.

In her spare time, JoyeAnne assists the Westmoreland Kiwanis Club with its annual Christmas party for children and many pancake breakfasts, as well as the Westmoreland PTO with its annual Trick-or-Treat Night at the Primary Elementary School. She also participates in several fundraisers for the school Band and Drama programs.

After graduating from Westmoreland, JoyeAnne plans to attend a four-year college to study history or design.

February Student of the Month

The February Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month was James (Quinn) Haggerty, son of Shannon and James Haggerty.  James

James is a member of or has participated in Broadway Voices, Drama Club, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Chorus, NYSSMA and Tri-M Honor Society.

In his spare time, James is a frequent volunteer for pancake breakfasts and chicken barbeque dinners. He also participates in several fundraisers for the school Band and Drama programs.

After graduating from Westmoreland, James plans to attend a four-year college. He is still determining a course of study.

Kiwanis of Westmoreland is a local branch of Kiwanis International. The mission of the nonprofit service organization is to “empower communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children.” Local clubs look out for our communities and the international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty.
