The Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the months of October, November and December has been announced.
October – Dakota Sill
Dakota Sill was named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of October.
Dakota, a freshman, is in his second year working at the bookstore located in the Jr./Sr. High School. Like many of his co-workers, Dakota takes turns doing different jobs.
“In an effort to learn more, we are always switching up what we do,” Dakota said. “I normally run the cash register and keep track of all the products sold and their prices. Overall, we each have something that we are good at.”
Despite only being a freshman, Dakota also relishes “showing others the ropes.”
“While I enjoy working at the bookstore, I also enjoy teaching others how to run things,” Dakota added.
Business teacher Mrs. Weisseberger, who also oversees the bookstore, is impressed with Dakota’s skills at a relatively young age.
“He’s very accurate operating our cash register and keeping track of our inventory,” Mrs. Weissenberger said. “He has great initiative and problem solving and time management skills, and working under pressure is never a problem.”
Congratulations to Dakota Sill on being named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of October!
November – Isabella D’Imico
Isabella D’Imico was named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of November.
Isabella, a freshman, is in her second year working at the bookstore located in the Jr./Sr. High School. Business teacher Mrs. Weissenberger, who oversees the store, says Isabella’s confidence is an asset.
“She’s willing to stand up for what is right all of the time,” Mrs. Weissenberger said. “She is always looking for ways to increase sales and revenue for the bookstore.”
In addition to being a good opportunity, Isabella says working at the bookstore has taught her many important skills.
“Most schools don’t have a bookstore,” Isabella noted. “So, I think it’s great that we have the opportunity as kids to learn customer service and how to run what really is a ‘mini-store.’ I truly have learned how to deal and interact with customers.”
Congratulations to Isabella D’Imico on being named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of November!
December – Evan Thrasher
Evan Thrasher was named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of December.
Evan, a junior, is in his third year working at the bookstore located in the Jr./Sr. High School. Business teacher Mrs. Weissenberger, who oversees the store, says despite his quiet demeanor, Evan is an integral part of operations.
“He’s very humble about it, but he’s very engaged and helpful with all of our employees,” Mrs. Weissenberger said. “He is always eager to understand others so he can inspire them to achieve even greater heights.”
Unlike his first two years, Evan is now a “team leader,” and has more responsibility. Evan is embracing the opportunity and challenge.
“I help train people who are new to the bookstore and teach them how to work the cash register, keep inventory and restock,” Evan said. “I also try to get everyone to come out of their shell, which the bookstore helped me do.”
After graduating from Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School, Evan plans to attend a four-year college to study mechanical or electrical engineering.
Congratulations to Evan Thrasher on being named the Bulldog Bookstore “Employee of the Month” for the month of December!
The Bulldog Bookstore is not associated with any class. Rather, students interested in acquiring a volunteer position at the store submit an application, resume and at least two references, and are then interviewed by Mrs. Weissenberger. Students work during free periods and lunch.
The store is open Monday-Friday during school hours and sometimes during special events. There’s plenty of “green and white” to choose from. Products for sale range from t-shirts to hoodies to snacks and school supplies. All profits are invested back into the student body in the form of scholarships to graduating seniors.
