Even though basketball season ended a few months back, the Westmoreland Girls Basketball Program is still hard at work.

Players, along with Girls Varsity Basketball Coach Jerrid Otis, organized a “Community Food Drive” in support of the Country Pantry in Clark Mills. The pantry, which serves families in Westmoreland, Clark Mills and Clinton, is providing food to more families than normal due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 13, players and Coach Otis went door-to-door throughout the community to pick-up non-perishable food items residents left on their front porches or door steps - - all in support of the Country Pantry.

"The pantry told me that the number of families they service every month went from 200 a month up to 760,” Coach Otis said. “So, I thought it would be good for our basketball program to get together, and put this together for the community.”

“Doing something good brings everyone happiness,” Alivia Enos, a junior captain on the Westmoreland Girls Varsity Basketball team, added.

The Girls Basketball Program delivered more than 40 boxes and bags of food to the Country Pantry on May 15.

Thank you, Girls Basketball!
