2020-21 PROPOSED BUDGET – What You Need to Know
Pursuant to the Governor’s Executive Order 202.26, the annual budget vote and school board election has been scheduled for June 9, 2020, and will be held by absentee ballot only. If the proposed budget is passed by voters, it will be enacted for the 2020-21 school year. If not passed, the Board of Education can:
· Place a revised budget before district residents for a vote.
· Place the same budget before district residents for a vote.
· Immediately adopt a contingency budget.
Should the proposed budget be defeated and a contingency budget is adopted pursuant to Section 2023 of the Education Law, $163,425 will be eliminated in equipment, salaries, student supplies and additional items to be determined by the Board of Education for the 2020-21 school year.

The public hearing on this year’s proposed budget will be held remotely on May 26, 2020, at 7:00 p.m. Information on how to access the hearing will be posted on the District website at www.westmorelandschool.org.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS
Qualified voters of the Westmoreland Central School District will be sent an absentee ballot together with a postage-paid return envelope and instructions for completing the same. An absentee ballot will be mailed to each qualified voter in every household in the District. Additional absentee ballots may be requested by any other qualified voters in the household by contacting the District Clerk at (315) 557-2658 or mhawkins@westmorelandschool.org. To be counted, all completed absentee ballots must be dropped off at the Office of the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, or mailed and received by the Office of the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. Also, please note, per an executive order from the Governor, June 9, 2020 was the deadline for a voter to request and receive an absentee ballot.
TO VOTE YOU MUST BE:
· A U.S. citizen.
· At least 18 years of age.
· A resident of the District for at least 30 days prior to the date of the election, and who is not otherwise ineligible to vote under the provisions of section 5-106 of the Election Law.
TO VOTE YOU:
· DO NOT have to be registered to vote.
· DO NOT have to own property.
· DO NOT have to be a parent/guardian or have children in the district.

Proposition #1 – Budget
RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Westmoreland Central School District in the County of Oneida, State of New York, by and hereby is authorized to expend $23,134,441 for the 2020-2021 school year, and to levy the necessary tax therefore.
