Dear School Community:
The Mohawk Valley region, which includes Westmoreland, entered Phase 4 of New York State’s reopening plan on June 26.
On June 11, Governor Cuomo announced that playgrounds across the state may reopen, but only with local approval and the following protocols in place:
· Social distancing is required by visitors.
· Hard surfaces and frequently touched objects (e.g. benches, handrails) must have frequent cleaning and disinfection measures in place.
· Visitors must wear face coverings, unless they are under the age of two or unable to medically tolerate face coverings.
Given this direction and clearance, the Westmoreland Central School District has reopened its outdoor facilities to the general public on a limited basis. Effective July 7, the district’s playgrounds (Primary Elementary and Upper Elementary), track and tennis and basketball courts are open for use Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. only. In addition to the protocols issued by the Governor, the district is also implementing its own protocols to ensure all CDC and social distancing mandates are followed.
Westmoreland Central School District Protocols for Outdoor Facilities
· Each outdoor facility is limited to no more than 25 persons at any given time.
· Social distancing must be practiced. If social distancing is not possible, face coverings must be worn.
· Persons using the tennis and/or basketball courts must use their own equipment. The sharing of equipment is prohibited.
· All playground visitors must sign-in so contact tracing is possible in the event a playground user tests positive for COVID-19. A sign-in sheet will be available.
· Hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, face coverings and gloves will be available at playgrounds.
· If you are feeling ill or experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19, do not visit the school campus or use any outdoor facilities.
· All users of the district’s outdoor facilities may be subjected to a random health screening by a registered nurse.
The district knows how vital recreation and leisure is for our health and well-being, especially for children. The district kindly asks that all protocols are followed so opportunities for recreation are available, but in the safest manner possible.
Thank you, in advance, for your cooperation. Should you have any questions, please contact me at (315) 557-2614 or rmigliori@westmorelandschool.org.
*Due to the capital project, the Primary Elementary School playground and the track can only be accessed using the Primary Elementary playground entrance.*
Sincerely,
Rocco Migliori
