As previously noted and discussed with the school community, one of the biggest challenges concerning the district’s reopening plan is the transportation of students to and from school.

Due to social distancing mandates and guidelines, only one student per seat is allowed on a school bus, significantly reducing the overall capacity of all the district’s buses. Consequently, it is extremely important the district knows exactly how many students are being transported to and/or from school by parents (or driving on their own) and how many students are being transported to and/or from school by bus. An accurate count will allow the district to comply with social distancing mandates and guidelines and, most importantly, ensure the safety of students and bus drivers.

If your transportation methods or needs have changed since the start of the school year, please contact the district’s Transportation Department, specifically if:

-A student was being transported to and/or from school by a parent, but now needs school bus transportation; or

-A student was being transported to and/or from school by school bus, but now is/can be transported by a parent or another means.

Mike Sweeney, Director of Transportation, can be contacted via phone at (315) 557-2632 or via email at msweeney@westmorelandschool.org.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.
