Dear Parents, Guardians and School Community:
As we start our third week of school, I’m very happy to report our reopening plan appears to be working as we had hoped. Transportation kinks have been worked out, we hired three additional laborers to help with daily cleaning and disinfecting and technology glitches continue to be ironed out.
I kindly remind you of the following:
1. It’s mandated that anyone who enters one of our buildings complete a health screening electronically. The link to the screening is available on the school website. If the screening is not completed in advance, admittance will not be allowed. A temperature check is part of the screening. Everyone is expected to monitor their own temperature at home and then complete the question that pertains to temperature. As an added precaution, a second temperature check will be conducted before anyone enters a building.
2. Anyone with symptoms, even just one symptom, consistent with those of COVID-19, will be sent home by a school nurse. If this occurs, one of three things must happen for re-admittance:
-Complete a 14-day quarantine;
-Be cleared by a doctor; or
-Provide a negative test result at least six (6) days after symptoms first appeared.
I apologize in advance for the inconvenience this may cause, but if there is any suspicion that an individual has COVID-19, we must do our part to isolate that individual.
3. The number of positive cases in Oneida County is slightly higher than when school started. When we opened three weeks ago, the infection rate stood at .3%. Today, the one-week average is .4%. It’s still very low, but we will continue to monitor. Cases have also gone up slightly, so we need to remain vigilant. Please know, should anyone who enters one of our buildings have COVID-19, we will do everything we can to ensure the transmission rate is as low as possible. However, we can’t control what happens outside of school, so we ask that everyone do their part to keep us all safe and our doors open for in-person instruction.
4. One more positive sign that things are starting to return to normal is the start of our Fall #1 sports season. Some of our Fall sports started on September 21, while others will be played during the new Fall #2 sports season in the Spring.
So, thank you for doing your part to help make the first two weeks back to school successful and as normal as they could be, given the situation. We’re glad to have everyone back!
Sincerely,
Rocco Migliori Superintendent of Schools
