The Westmoreland Boys and Girls Varsity Cross Country teams kicked off their shortened seasons at home with a meet against Sauquoit on October 10.

Before the start of the meet, Westmoreland honored its eight seniors with a brief “Senior Day” ceremony.  Seniors with coaches

This year’s seniors are: JoyeAnne Alexander, Griffin Catello, Raymond Donnelly, Jayden Fedoroff, Douglas Flory, Isabella Mazur, Owen Smith and Nicolas Sovare.

The meet - - also featuring the Westmoreland and Sauquoit modified teams - - was run under perfect, sunny and mild conditions. Despite a limited meet schedule, Westmoreland Coach Neal Bartlett has an optimistic outlook.

“We have more runners than ever this year,” Coach Bartlett said. “There’s not a lot of time to improve, but we have something to build on.”

Sauquoit won the Boys Varsity meet. Logan Houck, of Sauquoit, placed first with a time of 20:00.9. Jayden Fedoroff led Westmoreland with a time of 24:23.6.

Sauquoit also won the Girls Varsity meet. Meghan Gallagher, of Sauquoit, placed first with a time of 26:17.0. Isabella Mazur led Westmoreland with a time of 32:07.0.

Congratulations to Westmoreland’s eight seniors and best of luck to the Westmoreland Boys and Girls Varsity and Modified Cross Country teams the rest of the way!
