Despite the COVID-19 pandemic – and the cancellation of all competitions – the “Pride of Westmoreland” Marching Band still found a way to perform.  Westmo logo

Members of the marching band joined other students from across New York State to participate in a “virtual” New York State Field Band Conference. Those who chose to participate, learned a part, made a recording, and then submitted it. Each part was transformed into one, big virtual performance.

The following members of the “Pride of Westmoreland” Marching Band participated in the virtual performance:

-Zoe Bartholomew
-Allison Davis
-Gavin Haggerty
-Quinn Haggerty
-David Huyck
-Samuel Huyck
-Matt Kelsey
-Jason Robinson
-Parker Smith
-Hannah Soulia
-Allison Storey
-Kiel Strife

Kristyn Cutler, longtime director of the “Pride of Westmoreland” Marching Band, admires her students’ efforts.

“I was available for students if they needed help, but they prepared their performances on their own,” Cutler said. “They attended rehearsals with other directors and professionals via Zoom, and I could not be more proud of the way we represented Westmoreland. They were well prepared, engaged and were able to meet new teachers and students with similar passions!”

The New York State Field Band Conference is typically held in late October or early November at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. The conference is the culminating competition for marching bands across the state.

The “Pride of Westmoreland” Marching Band placed a program best second at the 2018 New York State Field Band Conference. Last year, the band placed fourth.
