Nothing is out of reach for Upper Elementary School students.
During the month of November, students in grades 3-6 read more than 50,000 minutes!
The impressive feat was part of the school’s “November Reading Challenge.” For the challenge, students were asked to read at least 20 minutes each night starting November 2 and ending November 20. Every student who did so, and submitted a reading log signed by a parent, was entered into a weekly grade-level prize drawing for a chance to win a pizza from Capri Pizza in Oriskany. During the challenge, several pizzas were given away to students in all grade levels.
“It’s important for students to read both in and out of school year-round,” Upper Elementary School Principal Mr. Haskell said. “We had almost 100 percent participation from our third and fifth grade students. I’m very proud of all our students.”
For eclipsing the school goal of 50,000 minutes, students were awarded a half day of fun at Rising Stars in Westmoreland. Third and sixth grade students were able to go to Rising Stars on November 23, just before school transitioned to remote learning. Fourth and fifth grade students will have their chance later this school year.
Great job to all of the students who participated!
