Mardi gras masks

Creativity was on full display.

The Zone for Imagination, Innovation and Inspiration (Zi3) hosted a free virtual Mardi Gras Family Night for K-12 families on February 10.  Student with Mask

As part of the event, students were divided in groups and could complete one of two STEAM (Science–Technology–Engineering–Art–Math) activities, a themed mask or mini-parade float.

"The Mardi Gras Family Night allowed students to embrace their creativity,” said Mrs. Davis, Zi3 coordinator. “They were given materials such as feathers, rhinestones, streamers, tissue paper, gold coins, paper masks and cardboard boxes with some suggestions on how to decorate their project for Mardi Gras.”

Students were also given an introduction on the traditions of Mardi Gras - - all while listening to New Orleans Zydeco music to help them get into the celebration spirit.

“The kids had a blast,” said one parent.

“Thank you, again, for another fun creative evening,” chimed another parent. “Looking forward to the event in March!”

More than 50 families and 96 students participated. The Zi3 would like to thank Mrs. Bradley and her sons, Mrs. Parzych and her children, Mrs. Sorensen and her daughter, Mr. Owens and his daughter, Mr. Boisen, Mr. Lampert and Mr. Pacicca, who all facilitated group sessions.

The next Zi3 Family Night is scheduled for March 25. More details will be posted on the district website soon.
