At approximately 8:35 a.m. on Friday, February 12, the fire alarm system at the Jr./Sr. High School activated due to an issue with a rooftop unit over the library. Students and staff evacuated the building and were brought to the Bus Garage and Primary Elementary School where they could stay warm and properly social distance.
The Westmoreland Fire Department immediately responded and quickly determined there was no fire. Instead, the fire alarm system was triggered by hot steam discharging from the rooftop unit resulting from a burst pipe.
The Westmoreland Fire Department deemed it safe for students and staff to return to the Jr./Sr. High School at 8:50 a.m. Classes then resumed.
Contractors will assess the situation.
