Dear Parents/Guardians:
At approximately 8:30 this morning, the Upper Elementary School received a threatening email. Upon receiving the email, the school was placed on a lock out and students and staff were instructed to hold-in-place. A lock out prevents anyone from entering a school building. A hold-in-place keeps students and staff in their classrooms while instruction continues.
At the time of the threat, one of the district’s four armed special patrol officers was already in the Upper Elementary School and the school resource officer also responded. The district immediately contacted the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office to help investigate the threat, assist with tracing the email and conduct a search of the Upper Elementary School. As suspected, it was quickly determined that the threat was non-credible and at no time were students or staff in any danger.
The hold-in-place was lifted at 10:20 a.m. The Jr./Sr. High School and Primary Elementary School continued to operate as normal. In accordance with district polices, the entrances to all school buildings remained locked.
In partnership with the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the district employs a school resource officer and four armed special patrol officers, with one officer in each school building at all times.
As always, the safety and security of students and staff is of the upmost importance. The district will always take any threat seriously to ensure the safety of everyone.
Sincerely,
Rocco Migliori
Superintendent of Schools
