Sophomore Hannah Soulia was recognized for her outstanding artwork.
Soulia received a “Gold Key” in the Mixed Media category - - the highest honor - - from the 2021 Central New York (CNY) Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program for her piece pictured to the right.
Typically, Onondaga Community College displays all winning artwork and hosts an awards ceremony. However, due to COVID-19, this year’s ceremony and exhibit will be virtual.
“Hannah worked on her winning piece during hybrid learning this past fall, and did the majority of it at home and on her own time,” said Mrs. Notaro, Jr./Sr. High School art teacher. “I am so proud of the level of art she was able to produce this year, considering the challenges.”
More than 2,000 pieces of artwork from the CNY region - - consisting of 13 counties and almost 400 eligible schools - - were submitted and judged by dozens of professional artists, educators and photographers. Only 595 pieces of artwork received recognition.
The CNY region has conducted an annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program for more than 70 years. The CNY program is one of the largest in the country.
Congratulations, Hannah!
